Dehradun , the capital city of Uttrakhand, was also the training centre of Guru Dronacharya where he imparted training on warfare to the Pandavas and Kouravas in Mahabharata days is considered as the home of Dronacharya where he had his warfare school and the place named after him. It is since then the place became famous for learning. Most of the famous secondary school of the country is located either in Dehradun or its adjoining places. It is not surprising that institutions like Indian Military Academy (IMA), Forest Research Institute are located in Dehradun. The conducive weather, connectivity, the picturesque location and local tradition is always an attraction for those who wanted to start an educational institution in Dehradun. The Mann family of Dehradun ,an advocate by profession got highly motivated with all these favorable conditions and decided to start a school at Curzon road where many other famous secondary schools are located. It was in the year 1984 the journey of Doon International School (DIS) took off. It was a flying start and the journey thereafter never looked back. Another DIS was opened at a later at a place adjacent to Dehradun. Over a period of time DIS opened a few more DIS at Mohali in Punjab, J&K and other places. Going by the success and reputation Mr. Sarat Chandra Routray , decided to have the first branch of DIS in Eastern India at Sijua near AIIMS in the outskirt of Bhubaneswar, the capital city of Odisha. Contact was made with the DIS management authority and negotiation started and after that DIS Bhubaneswar branch of DIS was launched on 29th June 2014. DIS BBSR is located at Sijua , close to AIIMS is spread over in an area of about 10 acres of land surrounded by lush greenery.The School has impressive high rise school buildings, spacious well lit classrooms with air conditioned facilities and with all modern training inputs like SMART BOARDS, well equipped labs and decent comfortable furniture including individual locker facility. Apart from normal CBSE curriculum DIS BBSR takes equal care on extra curricular activities like contemporary dance, music classes, martial arts,art and craft ,personality development classes, GK, affiliation with Trinity College of London in order to improve the communication skill. The students are also taken out for excursions in and around BBSR from time to time. Once in a year they are out for a visit to other states. DIS BBSR, gives equal importance to outdoor activities to build up leadership qualities, team spirit, moral education and character building. The school has its own canteen, hard court lawn tennis, badminton and basketball facilities, 200m track & field, and a swimming pool. We are planning to add more facilities such as an open air theater, a multipurpose auditorium, cricket net practice, more comfortable & mordern boarding facilities, soccer field and equestrian activities. DIS BBSR though relatively new entrant in secondary education in the state, however, the teaching community, a few of them are highly experienced , qualified and dedicated. The younger lots are active, energetic and innovative. DIS BBSR has all the potential to become one of the premier institutions not only in eastern India but also in the country.
