Things You Can Do on Exam Day to Improve Your Grades

Reading Time: 3 minutes

Are your examinations fast approaching? This is going to be a stressful time in your life since you know that your grades depend on having a good exam day. You have put in the hours when it comes to studying and you are revising every night beforehand. Is there anything else you can do to ensure good performance?

Well, a lot of students are guilty when it comes to their morning routine before exams. so, here are some things you can do to calm your nerves, remember facts at the last minute and stay focused during the exam.

A Last-Minute Study Session

If you have an exam later in the day, you might choose to have one last study session in the morning. Going over strategies and facts at the last minute can help a lot of students. It is a way to quickly revise and have this information fresh in your mind. For example, say you have a maths exam. On the day, you can learn maths online with a tutor. This can allow you to feel confident ahead of the exam and ensure you have gone over everything you find difficult before the big moment.

If you do choose to have a study session or a lesson before your exam, stay calm if you cannot remember everything. You might be surprised at what you can remember when you are at the desk and have the paper in front of you. Always try to stay calm and do your best.

Look Over Notes

Something that can help you tremendously on the morning of your exam is looking over notes. This can help to jog your memory and remember certain topics. It can feel fresh in your mind and make all the difference if similar questions come up in the exam. Indeed, when you are revising, it is a good idea to make notes that you know you will look over just before sitting the exam. This way, you can make sure it contains everything you need.

But, something to realise is not to worry if you find something in your notes that you did not remember. Hopefully, you have now grasped the concept and will remember it on the day. Again, your mind can do a lot more than you think it can and this is true even when under pressure.

Have Breakfast

It is natural to feel nervous on the day of your exam. It is a big day and no matter how hard you have been studying, you can feel nervous about the questions and what is going to happen. But, one thing you do not want to do is skip breakfast. Yes, you may not feel like it. But, it is an important meal of the day and one that is important before an exam.

Your breakfast is going to give you energy. Indeed, it can even help you from feeling hungry later on during the exam. Things like your concentration and memory can be affected when you have not had enough to eat. So, make time for a good breakfast before you leave.

Try to Wake Up Early

Nobody wants to be rushing to an exam and worrying about being late. This is not going to help calm you down and keep your nerves to a minimum. So, on the morning of your exam, make sure that you get up early. This can give you time to wake up, do some last-minute revision and get ready for the day.

Just make sure that you go to bed early the night before. Otherwise, getting up early can be a struggle and mean that you are tired before your exam. You can work out what time you want to wake up to give you enough hours before the exam starts.

Avoid Caffeine

A lot of students want to have an energy drink or coffee before their exam. They are under the illusion that this can boost their focus and help them concentrate. But, this is not something that is recommended. You have to remember the downsides that come with caffeine.

We are talking about feeling nerves on edge. This can happen if you take too much caffeine or you are not used to drinking it all. It can also make you feel like you need to go to the bathroom constantly. This is something that you do not want to happen when you are in the middle of your exam.
