Reading Time: 2 minutes

With the decline in the number of Covid cases, Gujarat is now ready to open the school gates for pre-primary section students. The chief minister of Gujarat, Bhupendra Patel analyzed the present situation of Covid and decided to reopen the preschools and anganwadis from February 17th, 2022. It would be after two years that students of anganwadis, kindergartens, and preschools will head back to the classes in offline mode. The pre-primary school reopening announcement was made by the education minister of Gujarat, Jitu Vaghani.

All the schools in Gujarat were closed down in March 2020 due to the Covid outbreak. After the situation got normal, the schools were opened for offline classes but the pre-primary section was still not conducting physical classes. The classes from 1 to 10th in Gujarat recently started operating on February 1.

The classes for the pre-primary section are resuming after two years, hopefully, this will bring a positive impact on the education sphere and motivate other states with decreasing cases to resume offline classes in schools. Along with this reopening announcement, the Gujarat government also informed schools to strictly follow all the Standard Operating Procedures issued earlier. It was further added that officials managing the operations and the playschool owners have to make the needed arrangements regarding starting education and implementing the Covid SOP.

Other states have also started operating the primary to higher classes in offline medium, however, Gujarat is presently the only state allowing pre-primary kids to attend offline classes. The classes for 9 to 12 are started offline from the beginning of February for most of the states, however, the primary classes are yet to be started in some of the states.

Check the best boarding schools in India here.

Why is it needed to open pre-primary and primary schools offline?

With the pre-primary school reopening news, a question coming up is why is it so crucial for the learning institutions to start operating offline. The education minister of Gujarat Jitu Vaghani said, “Closing of pre-primary institutions in the last two years has provoked a considerable education loss of learning for kids.” It is much needed to restore the existing education infrastructure to bring back the essence of the education system. Jitu Vaghani further added, “The State govt. Is further preparing a roadmap for overcoming the learning loss in children as they will get into class 1 without any pre-school learning.”

What makes learning in an offline medium necessary for toddlers is the adaptability to online learning. The higher classes students are a bit familiar with gadgets and virtual classes and if not can be trained easily. But this is a tough job for the little ones who are not so used to the digital world and can fall into the habit of excessive use of devices very quickly. While Gujarat has initiated anganwadis, kindergarten, and Pre-Primary school reopening, it would be an equally responsible job to maintain the safety standards and restart the functioning of schools after two years.

Play schools have a great significance in helping toddlers to embark on their learning journey. While every preschool follows innovative and engaging activities to develop a child’s interest, choosing the right play school curriculum can be a tough job. The following content piece addresses the types of play school curriculum offered.

The young years of a child are very important for a child’s growth and development. The lessons, behaviors, and values they learn before turning five have a great impact on their future interests. This makes having a nurturing and stimulating environment around these young minds very important. Even if they spend a few hours learning and exploring what can fuel their brain development can be immensely helpful. This atmosphere can indeed be provided to some extent but at the end of the day, it limits children to a comfort zone. While most parents are busy and working, it is a bit difficult to maintain the same. And in this scenario play schools come as a savior.

What are the various preschool curriculums offered?

Preschools are the educational institutions that teach children between the ages of 2 to 5 years with a focus on sharpening their brains. The best Play Schools in Delhi don’t follow a structured syllabus but carry out thoughtfully decided playful activities that stimulate the thinking process of children. The preschool programs help them to learn and grow in the way that suits them, choosing the right play school curriculum is important. Here are the types of play school curriculum offered:

Montessori

The Montessori curriculum was developed by the child development specialist, Maria Montessori. This curriculum is built on the belief that learning is not determined by the age of a child but rather by the speed a child can acquire a skill before hopping onto another skill. Because of the same, Montessori play schools have mixed-age classes where a 2-year-old child might be learning with a 4 year one. This curriculum is considered ideal for primary to elementary grades. This system of learning offers a child-centric approach where ideas are emphasized without any unwanted limitations. Here the learning environment is made meaningful with the desire of children to learn.

Waldorf

The Waldorf curriculum was developed by the Austrian philosopher and social reformer, Rudolf Steiner. The Steiner curriculum aims to provide a creative and unrushed process of learning where children can develop learning happiness while enjoying their childhood rather than getting involved in specialization at such a young age. Its curriculum is formed by some flexible pedagogical guidelines based on the principles of Steiner contributing to holistic development. The curriculum involves thematic blocks of learning in an engaging, artistic, intellectual, and practical manner.

Reggio Emilia

The Reggio Emilia approach was started in Reggio Emilia, Italy by a teacher for the primary and pre-primary sections. It is based on the ideology of a self-guided approach where children can express themselves in various ways as they learn and develop their thinking. It encourages activities like drawing, painting, and drama as children use these to express themselves. Reggio Emilia engages children in meaningful activities that bring learning joy to them and along the same help them prepare to enter the formal K12 education sphere.

HighScope

The HighScope preschool curriculum is based on the Perry Preschool study of 1962 and was founded by the American psychologist David Weikart. It is a holistic and research-based curriculum particularly curated to build a rich foundation to boost creativity and confidence in children. The learning here is not merely limited to academics but also prepares students for schooling. It includes interaction strategies, assessments, and activities that ensure a high-quality experience for every child.

Bank Street

The Bank Street curriculum for pre-schools was developed by educator Lucy Sprague Mitchell. Also known by the name Development-Interaction approach, it follows a child-centric approach with its emphasis on curriculum diversification. Most of the learning is done in groups and involves more than one subject. The activities are designed for the growth of cognitive, emotional, physical, and social skills of children. Most of the learning is done in groups and Calculus Help online Involves more than one subject.

Parents Co-Ops

Parent Cooperative for Early Learning or the PCEL is a cooperative preschool program where a group of families who have similar ideologies hires a teacher for their children together. The school is administered by the families. It is a partnership between the families and teachers where parents assist teachers rotationally and actively participate in educational programs.

Froebel

The Froebel method of preschools was introduced by the German educator and the founder of the Kindergarten movement, Friedrich Froebel. In this system, children are taught by employing creative and playful methods, social interactions, and natural expressions. It was called Kindergarten meaning ‘Garden of Children ‘in the German language and was the first developed method for early childhood.

The preschools’ curriculums are diverse just like the minds of little children. While one size could not fit everyone, one method of early childhood education cannot be optimum for every child. Parents can observe and take suggestions from Edustoke experts and then decide the play school they want to enroll their children in. The doting parents find all those possible best preschools near their residence or their workplace which is close by at an accessible distance. The parents usually look out for a hygienic and safe place which promises a better growing up environment for the love of their life. But there are few other things which a parent will usually miss out on. They either overlook them or never have any idea about certain points which may create a bigger impact on their little ones.

Preschool is not just about having good teachers, clean chairs and floors or secured indoors. There are few other factors which only a keen observer or a professional can usually think of. Here we are giving you some of the important points to consider in preschool which would be considered as not so important by the parents.

Language or the communication ability of the teachers/support staff:

Why? You may ask… but isn’t it so obvious that when the kids can grasp the accent and language from parents, the same would be done with the adults at the other environment where kids generally spend a good share of their day? Make sure that you strike a quick conversation with everyone in that school. A cuss word sounds interesting to a child than an act of kindness, as the other one brightens up their curious minds than their usual routine. How to spot this? Give more than 2 visits to the preschools you are finalizing on. Keep a check on the way the teachers teach the kids. Take a look on how the support staff gets the child to be potty trained. These intricate details can help you decide with a relief. Strange thing to observe? Well nothing is more important than your child right?

The Game and the game changers:

“You can discover more about a person in an hour of play than in a year of conversation.” – Plato. Games are innate in children for whom learning at the initial stage only happens when there is some game or playing involved. The teachers could be the game changer in a child’s life who will engage the kids by applying the creative techniques to teach those concepts which are prescribed in the Preschool syllabus in a given curriculum. Mere teaching ABC or 123 will fetch no interest, but playing hopscotch with numbers in them or singing and enacting the ABC rhyme with pictures and charts on the wall can help then to gain a better understanding in their own distinct style. The learning is all about making the concepts and the curriculum come alive with various lively activities.

Serious about not being serious:

It is usual Indian tendency to be happy to see their children write and read as soon as they start learning. This is due to the kind of pressure they have from the society to be the better child than the best. Competition is so prevalent that it takes away the childhood from a child. Go easy on making your child a productive one. Make your child a proactive person who actively involves in learning skills and not delivering results. Making them aware of the concepts than being pushed to learn the contents of the curriculum is the factor than can change the entire process of effective learning for your child. Look for a Preschool which makes the child learn some basic concepts like watering the plants to keep them alive, cleaning the dirty hands to be free from diseases or things like saying ‘please’ before telling ‘I want’.

These small things can pave the way for a better learning capability once they reach the regular day school setup. It is the difference between teaching them to concentrate better through team activities than asking them to pay attention to the teacher in the class.

Technology tips for Preschool parents

Any preschool will make an attempt to get the best out of each child, which is exactly what each parent expects to. But what the child actually needs is attention and care. Giving utmost attention and unconditional love which is infused with simple concepts and joyful learning, a preschool learning will then reach a successful completion.
