About School

Welcome to The Doon School. We are a school which specializes in all boys boarding education for pupils aged 12-18. The school is probably the only ‘All India’ school with applications from almost every state each year, as well as from Indian families overseas. Established in 1935, The Doon School is one of India’s finest schools, with a strong intellectual heartbeat. The Doon School is a full boarding school for boys only and not simply a school which welcomes boarders. The school’s beautiful seventy acre campus with a vast range of flora, fauna and bird life provide all boys with ample green space and fresh air where they are able to live and learn. It is an environment rarely offered by schools in large and small cities in India, or indeed some other countries. All boys are able to seek advice from the teaching staff, the Wellness Centre and the school counsellor living on the school campus throughout the seven day week. Boys discover that they have much more time to study and pursue their wider interests. There is no wasted time travelling to learn Sport, Art, Music, Drama and benefit from Careers Guidance as well as other necessary university and college entrance preparation.

No. Doon School is a boys school.

The school's beautiful seventy acre campus has a vast range of flora, fauna and bird life.

Almost all of the teachers live on the campus and all teachers, in and out of the classroom, are actively involved in the co-curricular education offered to each and every boy. Every teacher is assigned a tutorial group of about eight to ten boys. Academic, pastoral and full guidance are all part of the tutors' role and the boys benefit immensely from this relationship. Outings with tutors to explore the Doon Valley and midterm expeditions strengthen the bonds between the boys and their teachers.

The school has a 25-metre pool, acres of pitches and cricket net facilities as well as multiple new basketball and tennis courts with flood lights. Boys have the opportunity to play golf at a golf course a few hundred metres from the school gates.

The current scholarship programme offered by The Doon School is based upon the candidate's performance at the entrance examination and subsequent interview. Prospective parents are most welcome to contact the school and request that they wish their son to be considered for such an award subject to his performance at the entrance examination.

The school has a 'test week' each term and end of term examinations called 'trials.' The results of these appear on each boy's report which is available to his parents. The report also features a detailed look at each boy's co-curricular interests and achievements. Full reports are provided each term. At the termly PTM's parents receive a detailed progress on their son's individual subject choices and also his wider emotional and physical development. Housemasters write end of term letters and the school's intranet is updated several times a week with news and updates of a group and individual nature to all parents.

The entrance examination is held in October each year.
