In 1957, an English lady, Miss H. S. Oliphant, inspired by the aim to create an equal educational platform for young Indian women in independent India, acquired a nawab’s small estate in Dehradun to give shape to her dream.
The 12 acre all girls residential campus is situated in the serene hills of Dehradun, Uttarakhand.
Welham Girls is affiliated to the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations, New Delhi, an all-India Board. The School has classes from VIto XII. The academic year begins in April and the Final Examinations are conducted in March of the following year.
The School wishes to offer its students the widest possible opportunity to develop their areas of interest and therefore makes every effort to cater to an individual’s special requirements by accommodating subjects in awide variety of combinations.
Students have a plethora of activities at the campus.
These include basketball, hockey, swimming, badminton, lawn tennis, athletics, table tennis, karate, shooting and aerobics. The basketball team has won numerous tournaments over the years and represented Uttrakhand at the national level.

|Admission Process||Admissions are offered in Classes VI, VII and XI only, subject to the availability of seats. The lower age limit for admission in the School is 10 years and 6 months on 1st April of the year of joining the School in Class VI. Similarly, correlation of age and class to which admission is sought is an essential requirement.In Class XI, admission is on the basis of Board Examination results and an Aptitude/Proficiency Assessment to be held in the 1st week of June and subsequent qualification on the Merit List. The school allows students to take subjects across the three streams: Humanities, Commerce and Science.|
