History

The school has been established by Mr. B.K. Birla and Dr. (Mrs.) Sarala Birla to commemorate the thoughts of Late G. D. Birla, a powerful, dynamic personality of Indian industry. GD Birla Memorial School for Boys was formally inaugurated on August 15, 1987.

Academics

GD Birla is affiliated to the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE). The school, comprising classes IV to XII, is a member of the prestigious Indian Public Schools’ Conference and the Round Square International.

The academic year at G.D. Birla Memorial School for Boys consists of 2 terms:

First Term : March to July
Mid-term Break : Four weeks in August
Second Term : September to December
Winter Vacation : Begins after the third week of December

Students of classes X and XII return in January for a Winter Study Camp. New academic year for other students begins in the first week of March.

Infrastructure

It is situated in the Almora district of Uttarakhand, a state in Northern India. Ranikhet is at a height of 5500 ft above sea level and is 360 km from the capital of India, Delhi. The school is located on a hill slope about 5 km from Ranikhet town. The school also provides residential accommodation for its students on its 36-acre campus.

Activities

Apart from sports, games, club activities there are also social service activities, trips and excursions organised for the students.
