Sherwood College is one of the finest boarding schools in Uttarakhand with a legacy of 149 years. The school has maintained course through pre independence era and two world wars into the dawn of a free India. History of Sherwood College

Sherwood College was founded in July 1869. It was the idea of Dr. Condon, H.S. Reid and others under the patronage of the Rt. Rev. Robert Milman, DD, the seventh Metropolitan of India. The idea took shape as the Nainital Diocesan Boys’ High School, as Sherwood was once called. 

The school’s motto is, in Latin, is Mereat Quisque Palmam, meaning “Let each one merit his prize leads its students to believe in humility.

Infrastructure

The school campus is widely spread in 45 acres, at a height of 6,837 ft. above sea level, in the beautiful city of Nainital. The architecture of the school campus is an aesthetic blend of post-Edwardian style buildings embellished with Gothic patterned windows, Romanesque arches, oak panelled walls, sturdy timber beams, quadrangles, and modern buildings.

To ensure the holistic development of the students, the school provides the right environment and infrastructure for the students to enable them to excel in all sporting and co-curricular activities for which the school is well equipped.

Facilities like smart boards in all the classrooms , state of the art science, computer and robotics labs, two auditoriums – the heritage 400-seat Millman Hall and state-of-the-art 900-seat Baston Centre, One Audio Visual Room, Pemberton Studio – Conference Room – — separate hostels for girls and boys and three dining halls.

The school has good infrastructure for all games, outdoor and indoor – Cricket, Football, Hockey, Swimming, Athletics, Basketball, Lawn Tennis, Table Tennis, Volleyball, Squash, Badminton, Chess, Snooker, Billiards, Shooting, Diving and Gymnastics.
